Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej Now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born on November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to receive a score of 10 at the Olympic event. Bela Karalyi was introduced to Comaneci when she was six. Later, she would become the Romanian gymnastics coach. Comaneci was the first to compete for time in the 1969 national junior championships and finished 13th. Following that, she was crowned champion. The first time she competed in an international event, which was an preolympics junior event for countries in the Communist bloc, she took home three gold medals. And in 1973 and 1975, she won crowned all-around Junior Champion. Her debut as a Senior in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turkishcheva, the five-time European champ winning four gold medals and one silver.
